Tansi relatives,
We are proud to share that we have learned that on August 1, 2025, the Honourable Rebecca Alty, representing Canada, officially signed the JSCN 370 Land Claims Settlement Agreement.
This signing formally concludes our claims process and sets the stage for the next steps. Canada has 45 days from the signing date to transfer the settlement funds according to our agreed Direction to Pay.
A joint protocol agreement states that each Nation will receive an immediate $30 million advance. This money will go first toward paying off any outstanding negotiation loans, and any remaining balance from that advance will go into each Nation’s community trust.
Most of the rest of the settlement money will stay in a Common Trust until the three Nations agree on how it will be divided. Any future Per Capita Distributions (PCDs) will only happen after each Nation receives its share.
The Lands Claims and TLE are now settled in full, this achievement is the result of years of persistence and collaboration involving leadership, Elders, negotiation teams and legal counsel. Many people contributed to this work over the years, and their commitment has brought us to this historic day.
The settlement will help us advance the priorities of our Nation and create opportunities for our members. We look forward to continuing to build our Nation from the ground up, creating a stronger and more independent future for the next generations.
We will provide updates as we move forward into this new chapter for Peter Chapman Band.
Ekosi,
